BSPD is glad to launch The BSPD Carnatic Cutchery(CC), which is a platform for BSPD members who have been pursuing Carnatic music at a professional level. This platform offers opportunities to such members who meet certain performance criteria. This is not a periodic event and will be hosted per convenience of the appropriate BSPD organizing team and the performers.
The following criteria/format must be adhered to by the performers :
1) Should start the concert with a Varnam which should be sung in atleast 2 speeds.
2) Concert should have a Main Item with
– atleast 5 minutes of Raga Alapana and
– atleast 3 minutes of Neravu and
– atleast 4 minutes of Swara Kalpana
all with manodharmam
3) Concert should have a Sub main piece with atleast 3 minutes of Raga Alapana with manodharmam
4) Concert should have a Thillana towards the end.
- A performer won’t be given an opportunity if all the four items cannot be performed and for the said minimum duration.
– Other items are flexible as per the performers’ choice.
Some of the other aspects are as follows :
1) The concert can be for about 1.5 hours duration
2) Violin and Mridangam accompaniments are not mandatory due to COVID restrictions. However, it is upto the main performer to personally arrange them as needed.
3) If there are accompaniments, they should be able to play their solo pieces as appropriate. Ex: Violin player should also play Ragaalapana, Neravu and Swara Kalpana and the Mridangam player should play a thani avarthanam in the main piece.
4) Rs.1116/- will be paid as honorarium to qualified performers.
5) These concerts will be hosted Online using platforms like Zoom, YouTube, Facebook etc. unless there is an exception.
6) Interested performers must fill a pre-determined form to register their intent to perform in this event.
